KListen: Shire “I Used to LovHer”

We should probably only post music on thursdays since all the KListen songs so far have been throwbacks. Now we promised not to post another 90s joint, so we are taking it back to 2008 with this one.

For those who don’t know, back in the early 2000s, Sisqo had a R&B group called LovHer. They didn’t last long so unless you are from the DMV you might not remember them. Six years after the breakup, Shire the ex-lead singer of the group, came back on the scene with today’s song “I Used to LovHer”. It has been a part of my breakup mix ever since (Yes I have a breakup mix) even though the true meaning of the song is up for interpretation.

Take a look. Take a listen. What do you think? Continue reading KListen: Shire “I Used to LovHer”

KListen: Doria Roberts “Perfect”

Okay. Okay. Yes we have been on 90s lesbian overload with the KListen choices so far. Yes there are other types of music out there. Yes we know there are actually humans out there that don’t love a woman on guitar. So yes we promise to switch it up (well we promise to try) after this one.

But come one the 90s was a great time in lesbian music. Nothing against the musicians of today but [text redacted]. o_O

Moving right along… We are in a little bit of a sentimental mood and have to share one of the all-time best lezzie love songs, Perfect by Doria Roberts.

DISCLAIMER: If you aren’t in love, you can listen to, but don’t blame us if you have the urge to dial up your ex once it’s over.

KListen: Me’Shell NdegéOcello – “Leviticus: Faggot” (1996)

How could I not followup my KListen feature of Tracy Chapman with anyone other than Me’Shell NdegéOcello? And no not because they both dated the same woman (allegedly) but because they were both some of my earliest images of queer women of color. KListen: Tracy Chapman “Fast Car” and Tracy Chapman “Give Me One Reason”

Even before finding about her love affair with the prolific Alice Walker,  the K Word has always loved Tracy Chapman.

Ok I have to say that that is one of the sexiest relationships between lesbians of color that my sapphic and sapiosexual mind can conceive… sigh.

I can remember being in middle school (yes I am telling y’all how old I am) singing “Give Me One Reason” at the top of my lungs. Before I even knew what loving women was about… I knew about Tracy Chapman and I loved her.

Here are two of my favorite songs, Fast Car (1988) and Give Me One Reason (1996).
