KRead: Black Woman, White Combat-from the Streets to the Sand

Black Woman, White Combat-from the Streets to the Sand
Plot Snapshot:  A memoir of Eboni N. Lacy, an army reservist, who shares her experience during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I am conflicted about this book. I could tell within the first few pages that completing it would be a labor of love. The writing is not as polished as most of the books I am drawn to and some of the experiences she shares appear to be disjointed. Out and About: World Pride 2014 – Toronto, ON (Gallery) #lgbt #lesbian

Hello lovebugs!

I flew in from Toronto EARLY this morning and boy are my wings tired. (Yes I get lame when sleep deprived.)  So instead of writing a lengthy  post, I will let these pictures speak a million.

Super Gay Movie Review: Stud Life directed by @campbellx

STUDLIFE 7Have you ever seen a movie that you’d heard of and wanted to see but kinda gave up seeing it, only to run across it on Netflix and love it? Really? Me, too!
So it’s the Sunday night after Stonewall Pride. It’s still wet outside so, I am inside where any good girl should be. I’d spotted Stud Life a few days ago and brought it up to the missus. Well, she let me know, in no certain terms, that she is not in any way interested in watching this movie. OK.
Lucky for me she decided to hit the hay early. Time to get my flick!
Stud Life was really, really good. Campbell X had been praised when this movie hit the festival circuit and I now know why. The cast was phenomenal. T’Nia Miller, Kyle Treslove and Robyn Kerr have amazing chemistry and carry the story, beautifully, from beginning to end. I even enjoyed the music…and we all know that can be a deal breaker in lesbian movies.
My two cents, ok…eleven cents.

Life without the Planet: KWord Guide to Lesbian @Meetup Groups

Gay MeetupAs most of us know, in the last few years, the lesbian “scene” has shifted from a familial/clannish one to one heavily integrated** into the mainstream. Long gone are the good old days of a lesbian bar. Kit has probably sold the Planet, Maud’s has had its last call, and the Palms… ok well it is still around. Scratch the Palms.

For many of us, if you want to meet a nice lezzie (or two) you have to hit up one of the monthly events by your local lesbian promoter, or put your networking skills on hyperdrive at annual events like Pride, Her WinterParty, Sweet Heat or Aqua Girl. You could be like me and start your own dinner club with likeminded lesbians… but there has to be another way right? It’s the digital age, how do we find fellow digital lezzies?

As an answer to those questions, it seems like  meetup.com has turned into lesbianmeetup.com (literally lesbian.meetup.com). There are over a thousand lesbian meetup groups around the world, from Sapphic Adventures in Chicago to Gay Geek Meetups in the UK.

So the question shifts from, how do I find lesbian groups to how do I find the right lesbian groups for me? We came up with a couple of tips for you.

Super Gay Movie Review of the Week: @GBFmovie

GBF2Ever since Paris and Nicole, having a fabulous BF has been crucial to climbing the 21st century social ladder.  Well picture a world where beautiful girls, like the aforementioned pair, need one last trendy accessory to really be on the cutting edge. What every girl needs is… a GBF, a Gay Best Friend. A GBF must be awesomely and amazingly gay, meaning: glittery, sparkly and effervescent…like Perez Hilton but nicer. Today’s high schools are a popularity feeding frenzy of teen queens…in more ways than you can imagine.

SUPER GAY MOVIE REVIEW OF THE WEEK: SAVING FACE (2005)

Saving-Face-MovieHappy Monday love bugs. There is a lot going on in Miami this week for the L the G , the B and the T among us.

It’s one of my favorite events of the year, Winter Party and especially for the ladies, Her Winter Party.

If you remember last year we had a great time at all of the events especially Artscape and Industry. We had so much fun we almost forgot to blog about it… Oops.

This year we will definitely be attending the highlight event (in our opinion) Artscape, which showcases local lesbian (and not-so-lesbian) art work. So with that in mind we decided to overdose on some lesbian art, in the form of film.  Huān yíng to Saving Face.

Something Like A Super Lesbian: Lorraine Hansberry

LORRAINE HANSBERRYI can’t believe it has been so long since I have written about a SLSL (Something Like a Super Lesbian). In my mind I planned to do one at least once a week but I think I am 2 months off that plan.

The last amazing woman I highlighted was Mabel Hampton, contributor to the  Lesbian Herstory Archives in New York.

Today I am able happy to highlight prolific screenwriter, Lorraine Hansberry.
