Happy Birthday to @kristiweb – 28/28+3 Progressive Dinner

First let me say thank you for the birthday wishes. I was happy to turn 28 for another year. I normally don’t talk about my birthdays on here (I’m pretty sure I am not lying… might have to rewind to last year to be sure) but I just had to let you know that I finally did the progressive dinner party that I have been talking about forEVER. It was one of my LGTBSide suggestions from the new year.

For those who don’t know, and didn’t want to click the link to see my original post, a progressive dinner party is one where you go between several houses having different courses along the way.  How cute is that!  Now I knew second one that I wouldn’t be able to do the party like that. Miami is a large city and none of us live within walking distance of each other, barely driving distance. So I decided to do it in the Wynwood area’s restaurant row.

First stop was Bar Louie

3201 N Miami Ave #106 Miami, FL 33127

Menu Choices:

To be honest all we had there were cocktails but it was definitely a great place to start. I had the DIVA (of course!). It tasted like Snapple but after 2… or was it 3… we were all on board.

Service: The waiter was very nice and snapped the first of many pictures of the night.

Environment: It’s a bar… a fancy sports bar but a bar nonetheless. It was perfect as a night-starter, and would serve as a cool place to unwind or catch “the game”.

What to Wear: I did mention it’s a bar right… use your own judgement.

Overall: I want to say 3 1/2 … but I’m not sure why

Would I go again?: Yes… o_O

Next stop was to 100 Montaditos

3252 NE 1st Ave #104 Miami, FL 33127

Menu Choices:

In case the name didn’t tip you off there are literally 100 small sandwiches to choose from. You pick 1 or  2 (or 4 like my greedy butt) and they make them to order.

Food: Really good. Don’t over-order though. There is a lot of bread going on. I ended up picking out the meat toward the end. Oh but don’t waste your time with the Sangria… it was meh at best.

Service: No service to be honest. You place your order and pick it up at the window.

Environment: Small venue.  It is kinda of cramped to be honest but I guess they are banking on the fact that you won’t be there very long.

What to Wear: Very Wynwood… very do your own thing.

Overall: Eh. It’s coolish. I’ll give it a 3 for what it is

Would I go again?: Sure why not…

20130727_220047Then on to Machiya.

3252 NE 1st Ave #116 Miami, FL 33127

Menu Choices:

Asian inspired

Food: Freaking amazing. We ordered a table full of food and picked at each other’s plate. Highlights for sure were yummy duck spring rolls (pictured), Crispy Gyoza (if you eat pork) and any of the sushi rolls. Did I mention the drinks are delicious? Chiiiiiiiile I had Red Lotus. Get into it!

Service:  Stevi was really sweet and helpful. No complaints at all

Environment: Minimalist decor. Gorgeous.

What to Wear: You can really wear whatever you want in Wynwood but this place does allow for a bit of fabulous.

Overall: Super strong 4.

Would I go again?: We all kind of love it! We will be back.

New ImageAnd last but certainly not least, Feverish Pops

3252 NE 1st Ave Miami, FL 33127

Menu Choices:

It’s not your mama’s popsicle. Natural, gluten free and DELICIOSO. They even have adult flavored beverage.

Service: Since they let us try almost every flavor they are A+ in my book

Environment: Cute. Love the pops of art on the wall.

What to Wear: Really *blank stare*

Overall: I want to say 3 1/2. Love the concept. Love that it is a Black owned Woman owned business but by the time we got there they didn’t have any “adult beverage” pops left.

Would I go again?: Yes, I want my mojito pop!

20130727_183323So that’s it. I want to say a special thank you to my besties for always supporting my birthday plan whims. Some I’ve known for almost a decade, others I’ve known barely a year. All have blessed me in their own way.

I want to thank Lynn and iCandee for the amazing party at Eros Lounge that ushered in my 28th (again) birthday.

I want to thank my lezzie loves who came out to show out. Besitos to my Mila and her girls for having me acting ALL OUT OF CHARACTER

I would be remiss not to say thank the very hot, VERY MARRIED woman who was on in town for business and almost got the business before I saw the ring… yeah that’s it.

Until next year…. here’s a hint… it will be Love Boat themed.

Shots! Shots! Shots! Shots Around Town: Chivas 1801 Club

Thanks to the @ChivasRegalUS team for inviting us to their Chivas 1801 Club event in Wynwood District last month. It was an amazing night of fine cigars, conversation and Chivas tastings with their staff. If you have the chance to attend any of their events it is a definite treat. Oh and yes I was serving British Bobby realness for the kids!

All pictures were taken with my trusty iPhone

Events: The Kword does #ArtBasel – Fusion Fashion Event benefiting Project Save Imagination at L-M-N-T

FusionYay so I didn’t write this post two days later… Booooo I am writing it a week later. There really isn’t any excuse for it other than I have been busy at work so whatever I suck. But here is my final Art Basel posting *cues cheers*

So after meeting the incomparable Theaster Gates , Reny and I made our way to the Fusion Fashion Event benefiting Project Save Imagination (@saveandimagine). Project Save Imagination ‘s goal is to help keep the arts/music in the lives of young people (especially necessary in light of the constant attacks on education budgets). That was enough to place several servalites (think: community service + socialites) in the building.

Events: The Kword does #ArtBasel – Theaster Gates Reception at @LocustProjects

photo-22Ok. Ok. Ok. I should have written this post two days ago… but the awesomeness that was that night rendered me physically incapable to express myself… read:I ain’t feel like it. *shrugs*. I had a really good Basel part 3 (and in retrospect my last good Basel night) in 2 stages.

After stopping by the Red Dot Air Fair to say hello to Lisa (and take a sip or 2 of  Garden Lemonade) we decided to find the Black Art in America Media Mixer (@doyoubasel)…. until we couldn’t find it. I actually still have no idea where it was. But as they say all good things happen to those who wait, or in my case, should have taken a better look at the Google maps, but let’s not split hairs.

As we roamed around Wynwood in search of the elusive mixer, we ended up behind a group of lovely Buppies and Bohos heading to a gallery which seemed to be a hub for beautiful bohemian folks. See Jesus did want me to mingle. Reny and I (oh yeah my partner in crime was in attendance) walked into the beautiful venue, Locust Projects, where we were introduced to the amazing work of Theaster Gates.

Soooo yeah I was supposed to write this yesterday….. but I was sleepy. And in reality I am really freaking sleepy right now too BUT I said I was going to write about my whole Basel experience. So here goes.

Tuesday was greeeeeeat. On the schedule was the Gentlemen Jack (@jdxus)-Art+Beats+Lyrics event. I linked up with my girl Mila who I haven’t seen in ages and she brought a group of her friends as well. You all know I am not a real people person but they were all really nice. [pause] Oh before I forget shout out to @msingridb for the info on this FREE splendiforous event. If you are into the neo-soul scene, follow her. Link up with her and check out the Bohemia Room which is the must attend for the grown and sexy, urban scene.

Events: The Kword does #ArtBasel – Red Dot Art Fair Miami,FL

Let me first say I have never been that person that talks about where they go and who they know and all that BS. Mostly because I don’t go, and don’t know nearly as many places and people, as my counterparts. Keep in mind I went to school with and have palled around with some real local movers and shakers that put my little social calendar to shame. So when one of my friends said that I should start blogging about my misadventures in Miami (since I have pretty much run out of gay-isms) I gave her a brief side-eye… So don’t expect any wave riding, bottle popping “I’m cool” posts…  more like a “I like to get in where I fit in”.

For those who do or do not know, Art Basel has invaded Miami this week. Art Basel is a big deal art show that they have once a year that peter-pipers a lot of people from across the country for a week of art, music and liquor. LOTS OF LIQUOR. I have a very lofty goal of attending an event every single night of Basel without breaking my bank. It may or may not happen but I am up for the challenge. I will be updating y’all every day with the events I attend and hopefully some good stories as I go along…

Tuesday – Red Dot Fair Miami Opening

photo (25)

First stop on my Art Basel tour was the Red Dot Art Fair opening night event.Reny (my Basel 2012 partner in crime) and I were given VIP passes by the lovely Lisa of the National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce . No real reason to give them a plug other than the fact that they have donated over 1.4 million dollars to local LGBT initiatives in the Miami area. I have the pleasure of working with them this year on their annual Her Winter Party event but that’s a whole other post. Anyway muchos besos to Lisa for the hook up! We appreciate it.
